The Irish-water-spaniel is intelligent and easy to train; they are also eager to please, devoted and fun loving, and however you must establish leadership over him.

They have a solid brown and dense curly coat, tight ringlets on neck, body and top part of tail giving them an unique appearance.To keep their coat short and free of mats, Irish Water Spaniels require regular brushing, and also clipping and trimming every few months.

Juvenile Irish Water Spaniels romp and jump with great vigor, and things can go flying, including people,therfore they need extensive exposure to people from a young age.

They will live for about 12 years, grow to about 24 inches in height and weigh about 65 pounds. They are prone to hypo-thyriodism and eye problems.

These are hunting dogs who love retrieving and swimming, they have webbed feet and enormous stamina; they make excellent retrievers, especialy for duck hunting as they love to swim and are renowned for their ability to retrieve downed birds from the coldest of waters.
